This part of the state was
known as Kongu nadu in the yore and the Cholas brought Kongu Nadu under
their control when the great Karikal Cholan, hailing from the early
Chola dynasty, was in power. The town has 2500 knitwear units, 235
embroidery units, 750 dyeing / bleaching units, 300 printing units and 200
other miscellaneous units providing employment to about four lakh
people.
